• Unit 1 (1st Quarter) Introduction to Geography
• Unit 2 (2nd Quarter) Tools of Geography
• Unit 3 (3rd Quarter) Physical Geography of the World
• Unit 4 (4th Quarter) Human Geography of the World
• Country Capstone Project
*additionally we will cover current events throughout the year using fact-based, relevant news sources
How will we learn in Social Studies class?
Social Studies stresses big ideas and concepts, and there are many ways to accomplish this. We will incorporate both web-based and traditional resources that help us in reading, writing, lecture, note-taking, visuals, maps, graphs, analyzing data, models, simulation, surveys, discussion, debates, group work, research, and projects.
Technology and Communication
We will have a Google Classroom portal just for this class that students will use both in and out of school as the main hub for our lessons, assignments, and assessments. Students will also keep paper materials from class in a Social Studies folder.
A Weekly Agenda will be emailed out and posted on my teacher website:

Grades
Your grade in Social Studies class consists of TWO components: Assignments and Assessments. These grades are WEIGHTED in Skyward regardless of their point value (parents-if you are not sure what this means, please see me for clarification).
Assignment grades are based on participation, classwork, and homework completion. Assignment grades demonstrate responsibility. Assignment grades are weighted as 30% of the overall grade in Skyward.
Assessment grades are based on activities that demonstrate your understanding of a concept (example: tests, projects). Assessment grades show me what you have learned. Assessment grades are weighted as 70% of the overall grade in Skyward.
Late Work Policy
Anything turned in after its due date CAN BE be marked down at the teacher's discretion. Also, late work from a particular unit will not be accepted after you have completed the unit assessment.
Any missing work may result in students spending a REQUIRED period of time outside of class hours to catch up.
Lastly, DO NOT copy other student’s work or plagiarize work from the internet/AI, this is cheating and is a breach of the student code of conduct. BE HONEST!
Materials
All students will be issued a Chromebook from their 7th hour teacher that they retrieve at the start of each day and return at the end of each day, or they may use their own laptop. Students should also have the following with them in class every day: Social Studies Folder, Pencil.
