Celebrations! Significance during Early Years

Celebrations are a way to stop, cherish and reaffirm the things that we value in our lives. We show how much we care about our families when we celebrate their birthdays; we underline how important our relationships are when we celebrate anniversaries; and when we celebrate holidays and other significant days, we demonstrate to those around us, like our kids, where our values lie.

Celebrations are in fact a brilliant and joyful way to teach our children what we believe in. Also, celebrations spark joy. And joy facilitates learning. Celebrations include sweet pleasures like food, music, games and fun, helping us hardcode an association with pleasure and joy and whatever we are celebrating. A collection of thousands of small celebrations builds the habit to celebrate and in turn hard codes virtues and values that help our children develop the way they see and experience their worlds.

There is a substantial amount of research that supports the many benefits of incorporating gratitude into a child’s life, as well as our own lives. When we allow ourselves to celebrate the flowers coming into bloom, the sun shining on our gardens or even the first rainfall, we are essentially expressing how grateful we are for the wonders found in nature. And we’re passing that gratitude practice on to our children.

Our daily schedules keep us away from our close friends and relatives. Festivals and celebrations bring us together, it gives a good time to rejoice and built strong bonds between everyone. Celebrating with everyone can help our kids to learn the importance of togetherness.

An imaginative approach to helping children experience festivals and celebrations can support their learning in many areas. By explaining to others how they celebrate a festival or take part in a celebration, a child’s self-confidence and self-esteem is developed, and children’s awareness of, and respect for, others’ beliefs is nurtured. Listening to stories at festival time can help children develop a sense of right and wrong, as they re-tell and re-enact the stories. A sense of the passing of time in relation to festival seasons can be developed, and children can use all of their senses when finding out about, and making their own different festival foods, fabrics and artefacts. They can also express their ideas and feelings about festivals and celebrations in a variety of creative ways, including music, dance and role-play. By offering children the opportunity of sharing the joy of others’ festivals and celebrations we can give them a gateway into a world of mutual understanding and shared human values.

LEARNING ENGAGEMENTS @ NURSERY

let's meet number 9!

Math is part of children’s everyday lives. Math is important and it’s important to help young children develop their mathematical thinking. A child’s math knowledge at the start of kindergarten predicts later academic achievement better than early reading or attention skills. Intro of number 9 was done using flash cards .

Caterpillars are super cute to make when working on number sense or counting lessons. Plus it’s an activity for preschoolers to do on their own which helps give them a sense of independence. Children of Nursery had tons of fun making Caterpillar. Nursery learners made a caterpillar and wrote numbers 1 to 9 on it. They loved being able to draw and colour and then count and write the numbers to caterpillar body.

Sports: pop the pyramid

Games play a major role in maintaining a healthy mind, body, and soul of the child as it gives a lot of exercises in forming an overall healthy physic. Physical activity is important for children, as it helps keep them at a healthy weight , preventing many health problems. It is recommended that children should also exercise an hour a day. Learners of Nursery Olive Trails performed an activity in sports where they had to make a pyramid out of glasses. Then they threw a ball at the pyramid to break it, and the child who made all the glasses fall down was the winner. It was a super fun activity and all the learners enjoyed it.

Stream: Counting is fun with Sticks and bands

There are so many ways to learn numbers and have fun. STREAM education boosts the confidence of the young learners by learning from these game activities held. Number counting is the basic math skills that helps children to recognize the order of the numbers.

This week in STREAM session learners enjoyed a different kind of activity where they used ice cream sticks. They had 9 sticks where each one had a number 1 to 9 and then inserted rubber bands onto the ice cream sticks according to their number. Popsicle sticks are one of the most used materials for creating learning engagements for children. This activity evolved the curiosity among them about number recognition and develop their fine motor skills.

LEARNING ENGAGEMENTS @ K1

math: i can count backwards numbers

Games give students opportunities to explore fundamental number concepts, such as the counting sequence, one-to-one correspondence, and computation strategies. Number counting is the basic math skills that helps children to recognize the order of the numbers. Emphasizing math from small age provides children a strong base of reasoning.

K1 learners enjoyed backward counting through a game . Teacher placed a number rocket on the floor with numbers 1 to 20. The learners were asked to move along the rocket from 1 to 20 and then come backwards while counting 20 to 1.These kinds of activities allows children to practice numbers in a fun and easy way.

Theme: Arctic animals are so cool!

Driven by curiosity, people seek to explore the world. At no time in life is curiosity more powerful than in early childhood. K-1 learners were imparted with the knowledge of arctic animals. The arctic is one of the coldest places on earth. There are many different animals that live in arctic. Arctic wildlife have special adaptations that enable them to survive in their icy environment. Teacher explained this through an informative P.P.T. Learners were shown different arctic animals such as polar bear, penguin, arctic fox etc. Later on learners performed an activity wherein they were told to make an arctic animal with materials available at home. Through this activity learners enhanced their creative skills and enjoyed it a lot.Kids love learning about the climate and the animals that live there.

feel good zumba

Zumba is one of the most fun and versatile fitness trends to come along in a long time. It is fun and you don't even realize that you are exercising. Zumba is a 'feel happy' workout that is great for both the body and the mind. Our little learners eagerly wait for the Zumba sessions as it gives them an opportunity to show their flare for music and dance. Learners followed the directions given by the teacher and had fun on 'Move and Freeze Dance.
