Second Grade

Welcome to Second Grade! I cannot wait to get to know all of my students and their families! This will be my 12th year of teaching second grade, and my 15th year overall in teaching. I am excited for this important sacramental year for students: Reconciliation and Eucharist. Please check this site weekly for academic goals for second graders for the upcoming week.

Week of 3/08/2020

Parents, please remember that Sunday, March 15, at 10:30 AM there is a parent meeting in the parish center if your child is making their First Communion. It is exciting to think that this sacrament is two short months away!

Thank you for keeping your child home if they have been sick. We have had multiple influenza and strep cases. I cannot stress enough to PLEASE keep your child home if they are not feeling well. They can always make up school content. They need to be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please contact me with any questions.

Please join us for Mass on Friday at 8:45 AM. We will also be attending Stations of the Cross on Wednesday morning. Be sure to ask your child if they are remembering to pray for their prayer pals. The students each drew a name of one of the students in our class and they are asked to remember their prayer pal during Lent. The teachers are doing it as well!

In Spelling this week, our words are: hill, stone, bone, land, oil, deep ocean, drill, remains, digging, change, glue, hunt, magazine, and tooth. We will have a pre-test on Monday and a final test on Friday.

In Math, we will begin a new unit on addition strategies up to 1,000.. Addition and subtraction fluency tests will be given each day before the lesson.

In Reading this week, we will begin reading a story in the genre of Informational text, titled Are you a Fossil Hunter? Vocabulary words are: hunt, magazine, piece, glue, tooth, change, termite, and mastodon. Comprehension skills we will work on are sequencing an event, answering comprehension questions, and summarizing a story. Depending on progress, students will take a reading test on Friday.

PLEASE check your child's red folder EVERY night. If the school needs to send something to you, it will go home in the red folder. This is especially important with the sacramental prep for second graders.

Please send a snack for your child EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Please contact me with any questions! Have a wonderful week!
