Students testing for a spot in grades 1-8 will take an assessment lasting upwards to an hour or hour and a half. Their questions come directly from the OLG School curriculum for your child's current grade level, providing an accurate look at how your student would preform in an OLG School classroom.

Reading

Students read or listen to a short grade-appropriate text and answer questions about their reading. Questions range from basic comprehension to deep analysis of characters, plot, and text structure.

Writing

Students are asked to write about the text that they read. Writing tasks can range from a few sentences to a short essay (older grades). Student are asked to use evidence from their reading to support their writing.

Math

Students are asked 2-5 questions per mathematical domain in their grade level. Questions include knowledge of basic facts, word problems, and number sense.

Many schools and school districts teach units in a different order than we do here at OLG School. If your student hasn't gone through their grade's geometry chapter or worked on theme yet (these are common end of the year units), don't worry!!! We completely understand these differences and are happy to communicate and work with you and your student to make sure the assessment is accurate and stress free.
