Snow days will be announced by 7:00 a.m., on the morning of the snow day, on all local radio and television stations, and an automated phone system. Please listen to the radio or television and do not call teachers, administrators or the school.
When the alarm sounds for a fire drill (or fire), all persons will go, quietly and quickly, to the nearest exit (determined by the classroom teacher). They will proceed as a class outside the buildings:
All Middle School Students are to proceed to the hard surface below the amphitheater. If a student is in the nurse's office, then he/she may stay with the nurse during the drill. Students in PE or in other areas of the building should still report to the hard surface.
The last one to leave a classroom should turn out the lights and close the door. Once on the hard surface, students should gather silently in alphabetical order, by grade level. Advisors will be on hand to take grade-level attendance and report absences. When the "all clear" signal is given, everyone will quietly return to class.
When the announcement is made for a tornado drill (or tornado), everyone should gather silently in the hallway, outside of their classroom. They are to get on their hands and knees and face either wall of the hallway. Doors and windows are to remain open.
The Head of School or designee will announce over the intercom that we are in a lockdown. In such an instance students are to remain in their classroom, or move the the nearest classroom. Teachers will secure the classroom and note the roll of students in the room. Teachers will work with students to help them move to an area of the classroom that is not observable from outside the classroom. Teachers will rely on students to remain calm, to take directions and to help each other. Teachers know their responsibilities and protocol for communicating with the school administration and with each other during the lockdown or lockdown drill.
