Sippican Project Grow

October 18, 2019

Picture Day was a success for both groups! They were all smiles!

We greeted one another by rolling an orange glitter ball across our circle and saying good morning. We explored new orange play dough that smells like oranges too! Drawing with markers and orange chalk on vertical surfaces is lots of fun and strengthens our arms and wrists to help us become great writers.

We have begun practicing our listening skills. We do this by just sitting quietly for 10 seconds as sound detectives and then talk about if we heard anything. So far we have heard the fridge and Mrs. Rios in VASE laughing:) We also have on friend cover their eyes in the middle of the circle and another friend goes to any spot in the room and makes an animal sound. The friend covering their eyes has to guess by pointing where in the room the noise is coming from. Once they have pointed they can look to see if they got it right. The students love this game and it is a fun way to teach them to be “good listeners”

October 24th and 25th are Early Release Days for Sippican-That means 11am for Project GROW. We will have snack together, but not lunch. We will have our conferences later in the year.

I hope you all stayed safe in this blustery weather!

Have a wonderful weekend!

We had our crazy sock day this week! Apple counting books were the read alouds for the week. We had fun learning how to shake pumpkin hands and sing Pumpkin, Pumpkin. Our first rainy day indoors, we explored upstairs to see where the noise comes from, we hear as the big kids move their chairs. We continue to learn and grow and have fun as a class community!

Next week is school picture week! We have pictures on the 16th and 17th at 9am. Please send in your envelopes with your child so that we can turn them into the photography company.

I have also started a Scholastic Book Club for Project Grow. You will find a tab on the website with all the information if you would like to order books.

Thank you for your continued support!

Another busy week has flown by. We finished up our red triangle exploration by opening the painting easel in the classroom. We have begun to explore the color orange this week and the circle shape.

We had the fire department visit and show us the equipment they wear. They talked to us about having a meeting place, stay low and go, and stop drop and roll. We would like to thank them for their time all the goodie bags!

We continue to learn and have fun!

Have a wonderful weekend!

What a wonderful week! The mornings have started off with a cheer for a greeting! We continued to explore the color red and the triangle shape. The students enjoyed walking on the big red triangle on the floor and making their very own red triangles from the red paper they cut up last week. We introduced blocks and have some amazing builders. We are practicing our counting skills by counting letters in our names and items in sock cups. We sang Wheels on the Bus, and some funny friends joined us on the bus! There have been so many laughs and we are really having a great time and building a wonderful learning community!

Have a great weekend!

We have completed another full week! We continue to open our classroom and build our routines. This week we have opened the dramatic play area with the kitchen and the Legos. We have learned a new greeting Have You Met a Friend of Mine? sung to the tune of the Muffin Man. We added The Pledge of Allegiance to our Morning Meeting Routine, as well this week. There have been lots of laughs singing Hokey Pokey and Head Shoulder, Knees and Toes. I think they like Head, Shoulder ,Knees and Toes at Super Speed the best! (You need a cape and to strap on your seatbelt for that version before you press the booster button!) We are having lots of fun and learning a lot about our names, the color red, and shapes.

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Hello GROW Families,

We had a great Student Orientation, First Full Day, and First Full Week for both groups! Again we would like to thank all of the families for sharing your wonderful children with us at Project GROW. I am also overwhelmed with your generosity! We have received so many wonderful classroom donations! I will keep you posted if we need more items. Thank you again!

We have accomplished a great deal in just a few short days! If you would like to see and learn more about what is happening in the classroom please visit the Project GROW WEBSITE. My goal is to update it by the end of the day each Friday, with photos of books, songs and activities that we have enjoyed as a learning community.

We are off to a great start setting classroom routines and expectations. Next we will start our “All About Me” theme. Please send in a photo of all the people that live with your child and any family pets.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me at sarahgoerges@oldrochester.org.

Thank you,

We have accomplished a great deal in just two short days! We learned how to use crayons, scissors, books, puzzles and playdough. We read books, sang songs (Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes and If Your Happy and You Know It), and had morning meeting. I think one of the favorite things we did was a game called "hocus pocus" to introduce the color red. The game involves memory, counting, and a little "magic"(see the picture with the red bag, red items and yellow cloth).

Have a safe weekend!

Dear Parents of Project GROW Students,

My name is Sarah Goerges and I will be your child’s Project Grow preschool teacher at Sippican School for the 2019-2020 school year.
