Welcome to the Junior High School Guidance Department

The Role of the School Counselor

The primary role of the Guidance Counselor or School Social Worker is to provide emotional and behavioral intervention and support to students in order to overcome barriers or obstacles to their academic growth. Through counseling, case management, behavioral support, and skill development, students are provided with services that allow for greater success in school on an as needed basis.

Life presents us with many challenges and we are aware that there are numerous stressors that children and families experience on a regular basis. Loss of a family member, divorce, social stressors, medical issues and other crises can impact students’ daily performance in school. Our goal is to be a resource for families when these situations impact a student’s ability to be successful in school.
