The objective of the Old Colony Summer Reading Program is to promote reading and prepare students for the upcoming academic year. Students* will choose ONE text from the grade-level titles:
After reading, students MUST create a "one-pager", which will count as the first reading grade in their English class. Open the assignment and rubric below:
Please Keep in Mind:
All students should consider the reading level and subject matter before selecting a book. Discuss your choices with your parent/guardian. Some books on the recommended list contain mature content, but there are many titles for different interests. Parents should consider their child’s reading tastes and maturity before approving a book. Please go to Common Sense Media for information about all the book titles.
We suggest checking your local library for the books, as most are popular titles. If you are unable to acquire a book or if you have any questions, please contact Carmen Amaral, Academic Coordinator at camaral@oldcolony.info
