Oldcastle Primary School hosted a dedicated Reading Week from 15th to 19th June 2026.
We had a fantastic line up of events designed to help pupils see reading as a joyous, social, and essential part of life:
Special Guest Visitors: Thank you to all the parents and members of our community who came into school to share their favourite tales. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to read to the children
The Sponsored Reading Challenge: Children were sponsored by family and friends for the pages they turned or the minutes they spent reading during the week. Well done to all the pupils who took part in the challenge. We have managed to raise a substantial amount of money for school funds to allow us to improve our reading resources.
Themed Dressing Up Day (Friday 19th June): On Friday pupils (and staff!) were able to celebrate their favourite characters. from a book or film! We loved seeing the characters come to life!
Whole School Reading Picnic (Friday 19th June): To wrap up our incredible week, we all came together as a whole school to enjoy a grand reading picnic.Â
Circus Eruption: Thank you to the PTA for funding the circus skills workshop for all the children. The children loved the session!
Family Workshops: Thank you to the parents and carers who came along to our workshops and coffee morning. It was lovely to see you all.
Visit from the Mayor of Bridgend: Thank you to Bridgend Town Mayor, Councillor Michelle Blundell-Humphreys for supporting our event and coming along to read to the children.
