9th Annual Eye Opener Invitational
Saturday September 20th
This meet is on a flat and fast course. A good course to determine varsity spots, assess ability levels, and evaluate runners over a longer distance prior to league beginning. It can be an Eye Opening opportunity. Many top finishers and teams who have a good early season time here go on to have a successful season - making state as a team or individual.
When: 2025 Saturday Sept. 20th
Where: Shollenberger Park in Petaluma, California
Course: Two very flat loops- one .8 loop followed by a 2.2 bigger loop. For a total length of 3 miles. Paved and dirt trail. You can walk the course until 8:30. If they are on the course after 8:30 they need to stay single file to the left side. Nothing too exciting, but participants usually run some good times.
Divisions and race times
Number of athletes may result in additional/combining races. Please check back to this website for any important updates. Start may be in single file by team depending on the number of athletes in each race. We have in the past combined the JR/SR girls races if the numbers are small. If the combined number of JR/Sr girls is below 50 we will combine the races.
Back by popular demand is the Coaches/Parents/Community Race at 8 AM. Registration is race day only. We ask for a donation of $5. The community race will be timed using webscorer. Official times will not be available until after the meet.

Please let me know if you will be mailing your check or bringing it the day of the event. Cash on the day of the meet is always appreciated as well.
Watching the race: Spectators can easily see the start, finish, and first small loop. However, when the athletes come through for the first loop, spectators need to be off the side of the trail and not impede the runners. As the athletes finish, spectators should stand on the paved trail above the finish line to cheer on the athletes. If spectators bring binoculars you can see the participants in the distance. Teams should bring canopies.
Parking: There is very, very limited parking at the park, but there are multiple side streets available. Buses can park in the nearby side streets. Do not drive buses down Cader Lane. It is a very short entry and buses have difficulty turning around.
Entries and Results: We have moved to automatic timing. Entries need to entered on athletic.net. by Tuesday evening. Results will be available there.
Refreshments-There may be a limited amount of breakfast type foods available to purchase.
Athletes, spectators, and parents should not enter any water in the area. The ground may look dry and cracked, but who knows what lurks beneath. Also, the area is home to many waterfowl and other creatures, so please respect the foliage and fauna. Due to the rainy winter, there is water! It may last until Eye Opener. Stay away from it or you will lost a shoe as a former Petaluma coach learned.
No frisbees, footballs, etc, - it is a small area and we don't want any unforeseen accidents.
There will be 2 port-a-toilets and two other bathrooms, but no other changing areas.
Directions
From 101 North or South take the 116 exit towards Sonoma. At McDowell Boulevard turn right. Cader Lane is the entrance to Shollenberger Park or use google maps for the technologically advanced. Buses cannot enter the small parking lot and other vehicles will be directed to side streets.
