History of the Shire

Okenshield started it's journey to shire status in the spring of 2011. Sponsored by the Barony of Fenix (Baron Angus and Baroness Hypatia). The shire first submitted the name as Oakenshield but, after consultation, it was changed to Akumshield and finally Okenshield. Okenshield grew out of a group of fighters that formed House Marius, this is seen in the device for the shire which shows three oak leaves. Okenshield is the land of oaks and the shield of the south.

Households

There are several households represented within our shire.

  • House Marius - the first household of the shire and and the members that formed the founding populace of the shire.

  • House Stahlgeist - an old and strong house that has members throughout the known world but primarily in the Cincinnati and Lexington areas.

  • House Von Atzinger - A household out of Louisville that is based primarily on the 14th century.

Shire Timeline

  • Nov 2008, HG Duke Ullr holds spear fighting seminar and unofficial fight practice demonstration at the Silver Dragon Martial Arts location in Beattyville.

  • Bryan Roberts attends the Lexington fight practice a few weeks after that.

  • in spring of 2009 Bryan Roberts, Robbie Tomlin, Charles Melton, and John Horn start attending the Lexington practice.

  • Attends the Lexington fight practice semi-regularly until Bryan Roberts, Robbie Tomlin, Charles Melton, John Horn, and a few others start their own fight practice in the fall of 2009.

  • Fall of 2009 HG Duke Ullr and HG Anne Lyse hold a demonstration at the Rawlings & Stinson park in Manchester Kentucky. Many future shire members attend.

  • Fall of 2009 Bryan Roberts, John Horn, and Charles Melton attend their first event, Harvest Days.

  • Fall of 2009, House Marius is formed Brannith Marius (Bryan Roberts), Gedrian Marius (Charles Melton), and Reynaud Marius (John Horn).

  • Soon after Robbie Tomlin, Nicole Griffin, Heather Sears, Richard Hobbs, and Charlie Rawlings are added to House Marius

  • March 2010, Bryan Roberts, Chalres Melton, and John Horn attend Gulf Wars!!!!

  • April 2010, Bryan Roberts, Charles Melton, Richard Hobbs, John Horn, and Charlie Rawlings attend Black Stone Raids. Bryan and John fight, John authorizes.

  • September 2010 a large group of house members attend Harvest Days. Robbie Tomlin is authorized and Aragorn Hoard becomes the world champion of Viking Thumb Wrestling.

  • March 2010 - first large group of house members attend Gulf Wars!!!!

  • Spring of 2011, the shire application process begins.

  • Spring of 2011, Baron of the Fenix (Baron Angus and Baroness Hypatia) accepts the shire as it's sponsoree.

  • Summer of 2011, the first warranted office is established by Robbie Tomlin (Hector Marius at that time in the society) as Exchequer of the Shire.

  • Summer of 2011, Gedrian Marius (Charles Melton) is appointed official Seneschal for the Shire.

  • Fall 2011 the incipient shire holds it's first event, Hammer and Annville.

  • Spring of 2012, Brannith Marius becomes the official Knight's Marshal for the shire and a Marshal for the Middle Kingdom.

  • October 2012 Richard Hobbs takes the office of Exchequer.

  • Fall 2012 KoKitsune "Calla" Yuri (Jana Karsnitz) becomes the Archery Marshal, Helvia Marius (Heather Sears) becomes the deputy Archery Marshal.

  • June 8th 2013, the shire attained full status

  • Summer 2013 Helvia Marius (Heather Sears) steps in as Exchequer of the shire.

  • November of 2013 Constance Dryden (Stephanie Gabbard) is appointed Chatelain.

  • Fall/Winter 2013 Bryan Roberts and Richard Hobbs establish the shire bank account.

  • March 2014 the Shire of Okenshield/House Marius is awarded the Dragon's Teeth award during the castle battle at Gulf Wars.

  • November 2014 Aroko "Rockstrike" Sutoraiki (Nick Gabbard) becomes Seneschal.

  • September 2014 the Shire holds it's first Melee event (Battle of Okenhills).

  • Fall 2015 Sibba Marius Von Atzinger (Samantha Nantz) becomes the shire A&S officer.

  • August 27th, 2016 The Shire of Okenshield accepts the incipient shire of Austrigatt (Ashland KY) as their sponsoree group.

  • Fall of 2018 Uncle Drogo takes the office of Chatelaine.

  • Summer of 2019 Ross McClure takes the office of Social Media Minister.

  • August of 2019 Emryss the Wanderer takes the office of Herald.

  • 2020 Lady Mathilde of Thornwold takes the office of Exchequer

  • August 2021 Major officer changes occur throughout the Shire. The list goes as follows: Helen of Menstrie (A&S Mistress); Lady Lucja Kubrata (Seneschal); Baron Wulfstan Egweald (Deputy Seneschal); Tessa Ravenhart (Deputy Exchequer); Lady Katelin de Irlande (Chatelaine); and Sjt. Drogo "Uncle Drogo" Rotaugen (Knights Marshal)
