Time to Exhale

What a year! We wanted to close this school year with a lovely look back at all of the AMAZING and WONDERFUL things our OKCPS Visual & Performing Arts teachers and students accomplished!


Here are just some of this year's stats:

~ Music and Visual Art Classes for every elementary student!

~ Over 18,000 secondary students served by VPA classes!

~ Creation and implementation of OKCPS VPA Curriculum, Instruction, Resources & Evaluation Supports for teachers and administrators. 

~  14 All City Events

~ Several MILLION dollars in VPA college scholarships earned this year!

~ 34 All State Musicians (Band, Orchestra & Choir)

~ 73 All Region Musicians (Band, Orchestra & Choir)

~ Classen SAS MS Orchestra Chosen as an OKMEA Honor Ensemble!

~ Douglass HS Band invited to the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D. C.! 

~ Classen SAS HS @ NE designated as an All Steinway Piano School!

~ John Marshall HS Band invited to the National Veterans Day Ensemble in Washington, D. C.!

~ New Marching Band Uniforms for all high schools! 

~ A sharp ⬆️ in OSSAA Large Group JH and HS ensembles.

~ Premiere of the full Film Production workforce development program!

P.S. Next year, ALL High Schools will offer the Film Production program!

~ Additions and expansions of programs such as pom teams, Modern Band (popular/cultural music ensembles), Dance classes at all MSs and HSs, elementary and middle school VPA after school clubs, and so so much more!

~ 94% VPA Teacher Retention for 2024-2025

🛑 Summer Arts Related Camps, Activities & Events! 🌞

The Visual & Performing Arts department has compiled a list of summer activity opportunities for families!  Included in the list are the OKCPS HS Band Camp dates for all band students who will be in grades 9-12 next year! Feel free to share this out as well! 


🛑 Become an OMAA Adjudicator! 

This is a GREAT opportunity to not only learn about music adjudication, but to also learn what adjudicators are looking/listening for when evaluating your students. 

World renowned music educator/adjudicator/composer Richard Saucedo will join an already star-studded cast of Janis Dawson, Mike Lowery and Jackie Gilley at the 2024 OMAA Adjudication Clinic on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Edmond Santa Fe HS.  Sign up TODAY to join us!!

🛑 2024 Oklahoma Fall Arts Institute (Quartz Mountain)! 

We wanted to let you know about the exciting workshops and instructors we already have lined up for the 2024 Oklahoma Fall Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain. 

OFAI is a series of four­-day weekend workshops for educators and adult artists of all ability levels. Instruction is offered in the literary, visual, and performing arts, including workshops tailored to educators. Public school educators are eligible to receive a full scholarship to the program, with discounts available for private school educators, OSAI alumni, and more. Additionally, all educators will receive 18 hours of professional development credit. 


Registration and scholarship applications will open in August, but I've listed the dates and workshops below for your convenience. Note: more workshops are coming soon!
