Oklahoma City Public Schools and Classen SAS High School at Northeast are partnering with OCCC to extend the Concurrent Enrollment program to eligible freshmen and sophomores whose schedules can accommodate the courses. A primary focus of the program is to improve access to college preparatory curricula for students in our district's schools.
Classen SAS@NE is currently working with district leadership and OCCC to evaluate the program's impact on our freshmen and sophomores. We will specifically be reviewing a plan that addresses several factors, including:
State Regent policy - 19 credit hour workload
A/B block scheduling
Major program requirements
Graduation requirements
If your student meets the course load requirements, Mrs. Kristi Schmidt, our 9th grade counselor, will reach out to families to extend an invitation for OCCC Early Start participation. Mrs. Schmidt will provide ongoing guidance for enrollment. If a student is approved and enrolled in the program, they must remain in the early start concurrent course for the duration of the assigned course. If a student drops a concurrent course they will lose a high school credit and may be at risk of not graduating. If a student is struggling with their course they are to immediately notify Mrs. Schmidt, so that she may provide support and assistance.
