When is the first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year?
The first day of school is Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Should students report to school in person on the first day of school?
Yes. The District will begin classes on August 13th, with students fully in person.
Can students attend Classen without participating in one of the Visual & Performing Art or International Baccalaureate programs?
No. All students are accepted into Classen based on their commitment to a selected major.
Can students change majors?
Yes. Students who wish to change to another major must complete the change process during the regular annual application window (December-February). Students must meet all criteria for the new program and complete an audition where appropriate.
Can students lose their ability to attend Classen?
Yes. All students and parents must adhere to the criteria outlined in the Student/Parent contract. Academic deficiencies, chronic absenteeism, and disciplinary issues are monitored throughout the year. Students with significant issues in these areas may have their special transfer revoked at the end of the school year.
Will visitors and volunteers be allowed in the buildings?
Yes, students, parents, guardians, visitors, volunteers, and activities involving external groups or organizations will be allowed in the building. Please bring some sort of identification as all visitors must be vetted through our security system. If you, or someone you know, are interested in investing your time as a mentor or tutor, let us know!
Will field trips be allowed?
Yes, in-person field trips will be allowed.
How will all this information be shared with parents to ensure they understand the important points?
We will be communicating with families in a variety of ways through email, phone and social media, as well as, OKCPS publications.
How will students and parents communicate with teachers?
All students will have access to teacher contact information on their syllabus in Canvas. Teachers will also be emailing and calling families periodically to discuss student progress. Each semester we will also have parent/teacher conferences where you are welcome to schedule a time to meet teachers in person.
Will students be able to schedule one on ones with counselors, or will there be group counseling sessions?
Yes, the emotional and mental well-being of our students is a priority. As such, district counselors and social workers will be available to provide support to students. Please feel free to email or call one of our counselors for assistance. We provide counseling and crisis assistance through 587-FEEL in conjunction with Human Resources.

Yes. We are proud participants in the district's OKC Mental Health programming which is a comprehensive approach to providing support in a variety of ways to our families.

What technology will my student need to have for Traditional - Learning?
While all students will be issued a Chromebook to use from the school, they are free to use any computing device. Please note that students are required to use an OKCPS Chromebook during testing.
Who do I contact if I need a device or textbooks for my student?
Please contact Ms. Sutton at 587-5480 to schedule a time to receive a district-issued device.
Who do I contact if I am having problems with a district-issued device?
Each school is working to build staff capacity to deliver technical support for each family. If you are having issues related to Canvas or other course software, please reach out to your teacher for a resolution to the problem. If you are experiencing difficulties with other related issues on your device, please call the main office at 587-5400. If you've contacted your teacher and the main office and still need technical support, please contact our district help desk at (405) 587-4357.
Will there be a dress code for the 2024-25 school year?*
Yes. The OKCPS dress code policy does not include requirements to wear a uniform. All Classen students will be expected to follow the OKCPS district dress code policy. Please be aware of the specific language in the policy as you prepare for the 2024-25 school year. Parents, please review and discuss the dress code policy with your student prior to the start of school. The Classen administration team will meet with students at the beginning of school to review and clarify expectations in line with the dress code policy.
