Career Academies exist as a school within a school. Students within the Career Academy take several classes together as a cohort and are enrolled in a series of career themed courses over four years. As a part of the Career Academy, students participate in real world learning experiences through job shadowing and internships experiences. Career Academies are supported by strong business and industry partnerships
Students are required to enroll in a minimum for four Career Academy courses over four years. All courses count toards elective credits and meeting graduation requirements.
Students must complete and submit a one-page application and submit a one-page application to their guidance counselor in a Career Academy program. Applications are processed on a first come first served basis and space is limited. Applications are on a first come, first served basis.
Oklahoma City Public Schools currently offeres 9 different Career Academies at 11 different school sites and each are open for enrollment to incoming freshman. Please visit the district webstie for a full list of academy openings.
Students who transfer into a Career Academy program during their freshman year will be eligible to participate in athletics provided all other eligibility requirements are met.
Transportatio will be provided for all students who reside withing OKCPS attendance boundaries to attend a Career Academy program. There are no academic requirements for a student to participate in a Career Academy Program. Students who express an interest in a program may do so, provided space is availiable.
Students with prior behavior problems may participate in a Career Academy program with special permission from the principal of the receiving school.
Students who elect to attend a program that is not the program closest to their home may attend that program but transportation will not be provided by the district.
Once a student is approved for a transfer to a Career Academy program they must remain with that program until the end of the school year. Students may choose another program at the beginning of their sophomore year.
