MATH
This week in math we modeled decimals using base 10 blocks. We discussed the relationship between tenths and hundredth and we applied this knowledge by converting between centimeters and millimeters in the metric system. Friday was a FLEX day and we reviewed fractions, decimals, place value, area, and perimeter. The EDM Unit 3 Test will be given on Thursday, November 20th. It will be followed by the Open Response Test on Friday, November 21st. The study guide is linked on the "Math Stuff" page of this website.
ELA
This week in reading we read, Hurricanes: Force of Nature, and focused on visualization and point of view in non-fiction stories. We discussed theme and identified parts of the story that supported the theme of people overcoming adversity. We also read a play called, Catch Me if You Can. We did a "reader's theater" and the students took turns reading the lines for the different characters. In grammar we learned about past, present, and future progressive verb forms of the word "be'. We had our sixth spelling test and the weekly ELA quiz on Friday.
SCIENCE
We spent continued to learn more about the types of energy and energy transfer. We watched a video about bungee jumping and one about jumping robots, both of which use elastic energy. The students also completed an online WebQuest about kinetic and potential energy. We did a fun experiment to see how high different types of balls will bounce when dropped from different heights.

A Message from Our Math Support Teachers
Hello, 4th Grade Families!
NC’s math support teachers, Mrs. O’Connell and Mrs. Palumbo, are looking forward to working with the fourth-grade students this school year.
As math support teachers, they will work alongside Mr. Zurga and Mrs. Dolph to provide extra help and guidance for all fourth graders. They will check in with students who may need more practice. Their goal is to make sure every student has the tools and confidence to succeed in math. We look forward to a wonderful year in math!
