The OCDA Middle School Honor Choir is open to singers from the State of Ohio in grades 6-8 (2025-26 academic year) with changed and unchanged voices. Choral directors and voice teachers are asked to please fill out the following nomination form for the 2026 OCDA Middle School Honor Choir. Upon receipt of the teacher nomination, a registration link will be sent to the singer's parent/guardian.

Dr. Laura Kitchel is the Area Head of Music Education and Associate Professor of Music at Capital University Conservatory of Music where she teaches a variety of courses in Music Education, has directed Capital’s treble ensemble Cantabile, and teaches in the Master of Music in Music Education summer program. Previously, she taught high school choir and general music in Kentucky, Missouri, and Ohio.
As a clinician and researcher, Dr. Kitchel has presented at many state and national conferences, including Ohio Music Education Association (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2026), the Virtual National NAfME Conference (2021), National NAfME Conference in Orlando, Florida (2019), Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia (2018), and Missouri Music Education Association (2017). She has also provided multiple professional development sessions for area schools and music programs. She currently serves on the OMEA State Board overseeing the OCMEA State Officers.
Dr. Kitchel holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University, a master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Kentucky, and her doctorate in Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum with Music Education emphasis from the University of Missouri.
