OCDA High School Honor Choir

The High School Honor Choir will take place as a one-day event on Monday, June 24th on the campus of Capital University and conclude with an evening performance in Mees Hall. Jordan Saul, conductor of The Ohio State University Women's Glee Club and University Chorus, will be this year's clinician. High School students from around the state can audition to be a part of this event. Interested students should fill out the Audition Form. All audition information and instructions can be found in this form. Upon acceptance, students are sent virtual copies of music and practice tracks to aid in their preparation for the event.

All audition submissions are due by April 12th. Students will be notified of acceptance shortly after the audition deadline passes. After audition results are sent out, accepted students will have until May 3rd to submit payment and formally register for the event.

This year's repertoire will include selections by composers DeMore, Curry, and Blackhorse. 

Audition & Registration Information


Please fill our the following audition form to be considered for the 2024 OCDA High School Summer Honor Choir. All applicants are required to submit a recording of "My Country Tis' of Thee" as part of a voice test. Applicants who have not met the criteria to waive the second portion of the audition must also submit an excerpt of "Blessed Be!" All audition information is laid out in the Audition Form.

HS Honor Choir Clinician


Conductor, educator, and mezzo-soprano Jordan Saul demonstrates compassionate rigor and social relevance in teaching and engaged programming in performance.  As a conductor, Saul emphasizes musical and personal skill building through programming by prioritizing voices of the global majority. An advocate of new music, Saul develops performance opportunities for student composers, and magnifies works by Women and BIPOC composers. Saul has produced programs with the Spelman Glee club, composer B. E. Boykin, former papal organist Sandor Kadar, the band Delta Rae, Project Runway All-Stars alumna Valerie Mayen, and many community and business partners.  She teaches clinics, master classes, and honor choirs throughout the United States.   

 

As a mezzo-soprano, Saul has been privileged to sing under the batons of Joe Miller, Alan Gilbert, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Daniel Barenboim, Gustavo Dudamel, Ese-Pekka Solonen, and Simon Rattle.  

 

At The Ohio State University, she serves as Professor of Practice for Choral Music Education, conducts the Women’s Glee Club, University Chorus, and advises student organizations and student teachers. Prior to joining the OSU School of Music faculty, she was associate director of choral activities and professor of music education at the Conservatory of Music at Baldwin Wallace University.  Saul holds degrees from the University of Arizona and Westminster Choir College, and currently serves as assistant director to the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus.
