Counselor Lessons & Curriculum

School Counseling Curriculum Description: lessons presented to help students attain the desired Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) in the areas of social/emotional, academic and career development. The school counseling curriculum is systematically presented by school counselors in collaboration with teachers through K-12 classroom lessons or other learning activities. 

Counseling classes consist of classroom lessons that provide for career, social/emotional, and academic development.

Career Development classes help students grow in their understanding of the world of work through:

• Create a personal portfolio on the Missouri Connections career website https://mocis.intocareers.org/materials/portal/home.html

• Complete the Career Cluster Inventory to discover how their interests can lead them to a rewarding career choice

• Create a resume of their qualifications for future employment

• Discover appropriate workplace roles

• Practice the job application process

• Simulate a job interview with their classmates

Social/Emotional Development classes help students grow appropriate behaviors through:

• Studying Respect for self and others

• Discovering and practicing skills to Cope with Life Changes

• Learning strategies and practicing how to Make Good Decisions

Academic Development classes assist students in:

• Learning Life Balance for the growing complexities of a middle schooler's life

• Each student discovering their personal Learning Style

• Developing an individual High School Course Plan in their Missouri Connections portfolio
