2026-2027 OGCS Board of Directors Election Information

Dear Orange Grove Charter School Family Members and Stakeholders:

Orange Grove Charter School (OGCS) has contracted with the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina (PCSASC) to manage its election process, ensuring integrity and confidentiality. Board elections will be held electronically on May 19, 2026.

The OGCS Board of Directors consists of 10 members. Four (4) parents, three (3) community members who reside in the OGCS attendance zone, two (2) non-voting staff members, and the current PTO president (non-voting) as outlined in the South Carolina Charter Schools Act (SC Code of Laws Title 59, Chapter 40), as amended, and the OGCS Charter/Bylaws. There are four (4) seats up for election this cycle: Two (2) parents/guardians of Orange Grove Charter School (OGCS) students and Two (2) community members who reside or have their primary place of business within the Charleston County School District attendance zone and are not a parent/guardian of a child currently enrolled at OGCS.

The call for Board candidates will begin on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The filing period will close at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. The candidate Filing Form can be found here. Profiles of each candidate will be made available before voting begins. 

The board's role is to advance the school's mission by governing with policies that ensure the school complies with state regulations regarding charter schools in South Carolina and by ensuring the school is fiscally sound. OGCS needs board members eager to commit their time and energy to stay abreast of the latest legislative issues that impact the school. OGCS seeks a diverse board with the skills to govern a public charter school. Board members are responsible for the long-term sustainability of the school. All board members must be South Carolina residents with a clear SLED background check.  

Per South Carolina Charter School law, school board members are elected by families of enrolled students and by school employees.

• Families receive one vote for each student enrolled at OGCS. (For example, if you have two children at the school, you will receive two e-ballots.)

• Each school employee receives one vote.

• If you are both an employee and a parent/guardian of a student, you will receive votes for each of your children and one employee vote.

E-ballots will be sent to the primary email address on file in PowerSchool. If you need to update your email, please do so by May 14, 2026.

Voting will take place on May 19, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You will receive your personal voting link by email from elections@sccharterschools.org. To make sure it arrives, please add this email address to your contacts.

Once voting has closed and all ballots have been counted, elected board members will be notified.

A Special Called Meeting of the Orange Grove Charter School Board of Directors is being held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11:00 am at 1225 Orange Branch Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
