February  Happenings

Hello and welcome to the O-F fourth grade website!

Can you believe it's already the new year?! In a blink of an eye 2023 came to a close and 2024 is here.

Fourth grade is on full swing and lots of really exciting things are happening. Fourth grade is a BIG year for our students as they learn many new concepts that they will hold onto for many years to come. The students at O-F are incredibly creative and we can't wait to see what this year holds for our fourth graders.

Looking forward:

In ELA we are in the middle of our Eureka- Student Inventor unit. This unit's big question is: How can an invention change the world ?  Students will accomplish this skill while learning about many famous inventors and how their inventions changed our world! Students focus on six main words this unit: Collaboration, Knowledge, Documentation, Research, Pitch, and Failure. Students focus on these words or skills while collaborating with their teammates, researching famous inventions, documenting what they create in our two builds, pitching new inventions, and gaining useful knowledge along the way! The students will also create their own invention at the end of the unit and become REAL LIFE INVENTORS!!

Check out our CKLA tab if you're interested in learning more!

In MATH we are focusing on all things FRACTIONS. The students begin by adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. Then we slowly move into comparing the value of fractions, multiplying fractions, and adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions with unlike denominators. What an IMPORTANT unit!  Please ask your student's teacher for any fraction guidance!

For rotations this year Ms. Turzinski is teaching Social Studies, Mrs. Knuth is teaching technology, and Ms. Solis is teaching science. The students will rotate teachers weekly.

WINN (What I Need Now) will start September 25th; students will be grouped based on their specific needs discovered during our universal Fall testing and teacher observations.

As always- reach out with any questions or just to say hello!

This is my second year teaching. I enjoy watching movies, reading books, and spending time with my family and friends.

My philosophy of teaching is that every student is possible of achieving their goals. Learning doesn't look the same for everyone- but if I form meaningful relationships early on with my students and do my job to give them what they need, they will succeed in whatever task they are given.

This is my 22 year of teaching in the OFE.  Im extremely excited to see what adventures this year has in store for us!

I love teaching because we learn so many powerful and valuable life lessons from each other every day.  The children inspire me since they are always ready to be the fearless leaders in the fields of mathematics, science, reading, writing, history, and adventurous exploring!   I'm a firm believer in building a relationship of trust to help support and provide the best possible learning environment.

I enjoy sunshine, going for walks, traveling, music concerts, flowers/plants and spending time with family and friends!  PS  I also love working at The Classy Cactus!

I love the warm weather, going swimming and watching the sunset. I also absolutely love playing board games! Monopoly is one of my favorites, but I also enjoy playing UNO and doing Sudoku with family and friends.

Creating a welcoming space for learning is so important, especially for the younger learners. As a teacher, I am deeply aware that I am defining the school experience for my students and I work hard to make that experience a positive, nurturing one.
