Dear Families,
We (Mrs. P and Ms. Turzinski) are thrilled to welcome you and your child to 4th grade! We're looking forward to an exciting year of learning and growth. Your support at home is crucial for your child's success. We kindly ask that you encourage daily reading at home, ensure your child gets enough rest each night, and limit screen time. These simple steps can make a big difference in your child's ability to focus and learn in class and make the most out of their educational experience.
This year, we're introducing a new math program called Bridges in Mathematics. Bridges is a hands-on program that helps students understand math concepts deeply. It uses visual models and real-world problems to make math more engaging and meaningful for students.
Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) will once again be our literacy program and we are SO EXCITED to teach about topics such as Medieval Times and the American Revolution! Please check out our programming tab to see these and other topics your child will study this year. As always, reach out with questions, comments, or concerns.
Project Lead The Way helps us instruct our students in thinking like engineers and experiencing the scientific inquiry process in hands on lessons that focus on 3 knowledge building activities, a culminating project, and a real-world problem. Geology, plate tectonics, and the rock cycle will be explored as well as the energy cycle, refraction and reflection of light and sound waves, and a coding module.
Students will continue to practice cursive, as well as become fluent in typing skills. Students will be able to edit and independently publish their written works in 4th grade. 4 days a week, students will have 30 minutes of WINN (What I Need Now) time, where they will be grouped with other students and given enrichment, reteaching, and support where most needed and identified through quality data collection and review by our educational support team (please check out our team members by clicking the link).
Lastly, please remember to check your child's Orange Folder daily. This folder is our main way of communicating with you about school events, assignments, and your child's progress. You'll also find optional assignments in the folder, including CKLA readings and math games. These extra activities can help reinforce what we're learning in class and make learning fun at home!
A REMINDER to join Remind to communicate quickly via text message with us (see our codes below in our bios). Please always call the office at 715-597-3196 as a back up.
We're excited to partner with you this year to help your child grow and succeed in 4th grade. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

This is my third year teaching. I enjoy visiting national parks, watching movies, reading books, and spending time with my family and friends.
My philosophy of teaching is that every student is possible of achieving their goals. Learning doesn't look the same for everyone- but if I form meaningful relationships early on with my students and do my job to give them what they need, they will succeed in whatever task they are given.

This is my 7th year at OFES (9th in education) and I'm looking forward to joining the 4th grade team and bringing some new STEM lessons to our students this year! I'm a mom to a 6th grader, robotics coach, Girls On The Run coach, and Thunder Parent Treasurer. Please reach out if you want to get involved in any school activities!
My philosophy in education comes down to inspiration and relationships; I love introducing new ideas and watching curiosity grow and believe students learn best when they know they are respected, well-supported, and valued by their teacher.
