A field survey on rivers and urban farmland was conducted in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, as part of a research survey related to this research program. This survey was conducted with the cooperation of Associate Professor Araki of Iwate University, Assistant Professor Fukuda of Oita University, and Associate Professor Shima of Toyo University.
Jakarta is the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia, with a population of approximately 300 million people, and has recently shown remarkable urban development. On the other hand, Jakarta is a city that was built rapidly on the alluvial land of the Ciliwung River, a large river. It therefore faces many flood risks such as river overflows, inadequate sewerage systems, and ground subsidence.
The survey was conducted on rivers and urban farmland, with interviews and inspections of the smart city development, flood control measures, and sewage treatment around the Ciliwung River, which flows through Jakarta, and citizen farms in Jakarta, respectively, with regard to urban farmland.
In addition, a courtesy visit was made to Bogor Agricultural University, a partner university of Chiba University.
The survey was conducted with the cooperation of the Indonesian Regional Disaster Management Agency, the Indonesian Water Resources Agency, Hankyu Hanshin Real Estate Corporation, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Indonesia Office, and many other local residents.
