On February 2, 2025, Chiba University and Matsudo City co-hosted a symposium “ Discussing the Nature and Rivers of the Edo River and the Fureai Matsudo River” at Kitemite Matsudo in Matsudo City.
The symposium was held as part of the International Advanced Research Core Support Program “Creation of Resilient Landscape Studies in Response to the Era of Climate Change,” under the general chairmanship of Prof. Akita of the Graduate School of Horticultural Science, with Prof. Momohara and Prof. Kinoshita, the director of the same institute, as speakers.
The first half of the event featured keynote speeches from a variety of perspectives by external experts at the forefront of their fields, including Hajime Matsushima of Hokkaido University, Norio Hayashi of the Chiba Prefectural Museum, and Keigo Nakamura of the Public Works Research Institute, as well as Prof. Tatsuaki Kobayashi, professor emeritus of the University. The keynote speeches were delivered from a variety of perspectives.
In the panel discussion in the latter half of the symposium, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the City of Matsudo joined citizens in a heated debate on the utilization of the Edo river and the Fureai Matsudo river, as well as on local community development in Matsudo City that makes the most of the river.
