As stated on PBIS.org, "Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based three-tiered framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day." PBIS promotes a more positive school climate, safer learning environments, and more trusting and respectful student-teacher relationships. In order to enhance our current PBIS programming at Olmsted Falls Intermediate School we have added new incentives and rewards for positive behavior with a focus on our PBIS expectations: Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Kind.
It is important to model and practice positive behaviors at school and at home. Students receive positive reinforcement through encouragement and positive relationships with others, as well as being recognized when they are following the PBIS expectations. Students will get Bulldog Bucks for being safe, kind, responsible and respectful. They can then use the Bulldog Bucks for weekly gift card raffles, The Dollar Dawg (currently one time a month - in collaboration with Student Council and our PTA - THANK YOU!), and as well as other recognition and rewards.
There is continuous communication to our students about PBIS at OFIS. As students walk the halls of OFIS they will see PBIS posters. These posters communicate the expectations for various locations around the building including the cafeteria, hallways, bathroom, and playground. Students can see the expected behaviors for each location. In addition, PBIS is often highlighted on the Bulldog Broadcast, our daily morning show.
