Dear Intermediate School Families,

Welcome to the OFIS Principal's Page!  Here you will find a variety of updates relative to what's happening at OFIS.

Bulldog Broadcast: Check out the Bulldog Broadcast for daily announcements.

Dress Code:  As the weather begins to warm, there is a need to revisit the Dress Code with students.  Please take a moment to review the Dress Code with your son or daughter.

Family STEM Engagement Night: Baldwin Wallace University students and staff are scheduled to visit OFIS on May 8th from 6:00-7:30 PM, offering families a Problem Solving & Critical Thinking Family Engagement Evening. Tailored for students and their families, this event will include challenging puzzles, interactive games, and engaging activities focused on enhancing critical-thinking skills such as logic, geometric reasoning, operations research, and pattern recognition.

Polaris Career Expo (Field Trip for 5th Grade): On May 15th, all 5th grade students will be traveling to the Berea Fair Grounds for the Polaris Career Center Career Epo.  This event is a field trip coordinated on behalf of Polaris Career Center in partnership with your child’s school district.  Click HERE for details.

Third Grade Students Spend the Day at OFIS:  On Tuesday, May 14th, third Grade students will spend the day at OFIS, weather permitting. This is because it's the day when the 5th graders are scheduled to visit Swings-N-Things, which opens up space for the third graders. If inclement weather prevents the 5th grade from going to Swings-N-Things, a shortened experience will be provided instead.

Greenfield VIllage and the Henry Ford Museum: On May 24th, the fifth grade will travel to Michigan to visit The Henry Ford and Greenfield Village. At Greenfield Village, students will experience the daily lives of early American communities. Complementing this, The Henry Ford Museum offers a vast collection of artifacts, exhibits, and interactive displays that highlight America's industrial and cultural heritage.

Camp Invention: Your future summer plans and engaging adventures are just around the corner! Join us for Camp Invention, the STEM-based science week available to K-6 students in our community. Camp Invention will be held at Falls–Lenox Primary School the week of June 17–21, 2024 with all new inventions and hands-on experiences!  REGISTER NOW to receive $15 off using the code FUN15 before March 16, 2024!  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Can’t wait to see your inventor at Camp Invention this summer! Camp Invention Director: Stephanie LaGruth, slagruth@ofcs.net

Escape Into Summer Reading: Earn a free book through the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program for kids in Grades 1-6.  Click HERE for details.

Summer Baseball Camp: Click HERE for information regarding the Olmsted Falls High School Baseball Camp.

Benefits based Accountability:  As part of our Benefits Based Accountability work here at OFIS, we are focused on creating an environment in which students feel welcome at school.   We believe that if students feel welcome and are happy here at school, there is a greater likelihood of them experiencing academic success.  Consequently, we have been working to actively promote and support student friendships and connections throughout everything we do.   Click HERE for results of one-question surveys administered to students over the course of the school year.

Spring Testing Schedule: Click HERE for the Spring 2024 Testing Schedule.

Seesaw App: Teachers at OFIS are using an online tool called Seesaw. It's a secure online learning journal where students can create and upload their work to document their learning. Initially, teachers are using the app simply as an enhanced method of communicating with parents.  Over time, however, students and teachers will add things like photos, videos, worksheets, drawings and voice recordings to their Seesaw journal in an attempt to engage parents in the teaching and learning process.

Latest Issue of In The Loop: Click HERE for Updates, Observations and anecdotes for Parents from Julianne Allen, OFCS Family Engagement & Communication Specialist.

The OFIS PTA:  Click HERE for information about the OFIS PTA.

OFIS Informational Packet: Click HERE for an Informational Packet.   Contained in the packet is (almost) everything you need to know about OFIS.

Identification Needed when Visiting OFIS: All visitors to OFIS will be required to present identification in the form of a driver's license or state ID.

Donating Gift Cards for PBIS Raffles:  We are reaching out to our intermediate school parents to see if any of you would be willing or able to donate gift cards in $5 denominations to the PBIS Raffles. Gift Cards can be sent in or dropped off in the main office.

Charlotte's Closet:  There are many students and their families within the district that need basic personal and home items.  The Olmsted Community Center has partnered with Kiwanis to create a space to store these items and allow families to look for things they might need.  Click HERE for more information.

Hopes & Dreams Parent Survey:  Just like your child is unique, your hopes and dreams for them are too. The Parent/Caregiver Hopes & Dreams for Students Survey is currently underway.  Sharing your thoughts will help us know what is important to you, and how we can help deliver the benefits you expect to receive from Olmsted Falls Schools.  We have hopes and dreams for your children too:  to inspire and empower students to make a contribution to the world.  Knowing the aspirations you have for your child will help us fulfill that vision. Click the link above to complete the survey. THANK YOU!

No Food in the Classroom Reminder: In general, eating in the classroom is discouraged.  However, we understand that there may be times throughout the year when treats are introduced into the classroom as a reward for positive behavior or in celebration of significant events such as Valentine’s Day and Halloween.  When circumstances such as these arise, any food item introduced into the classroom must be a part of the Safe Snack List. This includes any food item brought into the classroom as a Birthday Treat.

Car Riders:  Any parent wishing to pick up their child at the end of the day instead of having them ride the bus home from school is asked to complete an Early Release Form.

Transition to New Anonymous Reporting Platform: Please be aware that Olmsted Falls City Schools will be transitioning to a new vendor and platform for our 24/7 anonymous reporting system for concerns about safety, security, and student well-being. The district will communicate directly with all Bulldog families over the summer and as we start the new school year regarding the launch and features of the new system.  Click Here for details.
