Scholarships
What is a Scholarship?
A scholarship is a financial award given to a student, based on merit, academic achievement, financial need, or other criteria, that does not have to be repaid.
Some scholarships are a single gift whereas others are renewable as long as students meet a certain academic criteria (for example: GPA of 3.0 or better).
How do students apply for Scholarships?
New SCHOLARSHIP opportunities come into the school counseling office frequently, especially in the fall and winter months. Students should be checking their OESU emails for the latest communication regarding scholarships as the scholarships are emailed to them once the scholarships are received.
VSAC publishes a scholarship booklet with many different opportunities, please make sure to pick one up from Mrs. Blanchard. Each scholarship has its own individual criteria and students need to read the FINE PRINT!
**Remember - deadlines are important - you can NOT be late if you are applying for a scholarship.***
Many scholarships require an essay. It IS worth it!!! Wouldn't you write an essay for a chance at a gift of money to invest in your future that you did not have to repay? Most importantly...have someone else PROOF your work! Lastly - apply, apply, apply!!!!!! Your chance of getting a scholarship may be closer than you think, some scholarships do not have many applicants.
In preparing to apply for scholarships, ask teachers, community members you have worked with for a letter of recommendation.
Need money for post-secondary education? You have come to the right place! Check back frequently, as new scholarships are added.
