Odyssey Community school provides high-quality language instruction and academic support to help ELs/MLs succeed in school. Language instruction is a core part of an EL/ML student’s education—not a separate intervention. Research has shown that it can take 3-7 years to learn another language. Just like all students, ELs/MLs also have access to additional academic support (MTSS) if needed.
Our services include:
English Language Development (ELD): Instruction to build listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. Students are offered this instruction as a pull-out model where they work with the EL/ML teacher with a small group in the EL/ML classroom. The EL/ML teacher also pushes into classrooms to assist EL/ML students.
Support for Classroom Teachers: Collaboration with educators to ensure ELs/MLs receive effective instruction.
Family Engagement: Resources and support to help families navigate the education system and stay involved in their child's learning. Conferences twice a year to discuss your child's language development.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring: Regular evaluations to track language development and academic growth. Each student has their own goals from the Connecticut English Language Proficiency Standards CELP Standards. The EL/ML teacher uses data from the UCLA/CRESST Performance Measure tasks and the LAS Links to create these goals for each student.
