Here you can find our weekly schedule at a glance! This schedule is subject to change throughout the year as we discover what works best for the diverse learners in our classroom!
CKLA Skills: This is our wonderful Core Knowledge Language Arts curriculum! In the Skills portion, students learn crucial reading and writing skills. In our classroom, students learn the foundations of the lesson in a whole group setting before dividing into smaller groups for more targeted instruction based on their individual needs.
Reveal Math: This is our brand new math curriculum this year! Similarly to CKLA Skills instruction, students will learn valuable mathematical thinking skills through a combination of whole group and small group instruction. They will also have lots of opportunities for hands-on, curiosity driven exploration.
CKLA Knowledge: This is the other half of our Core Knowledge Language Arts program. Students will exercise speaking and listening skills through this discussion based curriculum. This is where we will learn about Nursery Rhymes, Colonial America, The Five Senses, and so much more! In our classroom, we will build on this learning in our science and social studies lessons throughout the year.
Critical Thinking: This fun once-a-month class with Mrs. Wilkinson will challenge students to think critically, solve puzzles, and generate new ideas.
Voyager Time: This is a dedicated time in our schedule for students to catch up on whatever they need. This time allows students to receive additional instruction in a particular subject, catch up on missing assignments or assessments, or even spend some extra time on Lexia. What each student does during this time is individualized and carefully decided in order to give them the exact education they need.
Social Emotional Learning: This is a carefully planned curriculum by our behavior specialist, Mrs. Carpenter, designed to help students become excellent citizens of Odyssey Charter School. Students will learn skills like self-control, calming strategies, conflict resolution, and much more. For more information, click here.
Centers & Re-Teach: This is the last hour of our day, designed to give students an opportunity to learn through play and free exploration. We will have 4 centers (reading, writing, math, and play) monitored by an adult, but primarily led by the students themselves. During this time, the teacher will also be leading a short, small-group lesson called a "re-teach" group. In these lessons, students who are consistently scoring below the benchmark will be re-taught in a low-stress environment. The goal of these re-teach groups is to ensure that each student is getting a quality education, and instruction that makes sense to them.
