As part of our Nursery Rhymes unit, students will complete an oral presentation in place of a traditional written report.
Students will choose and memorize a Mother Goose nursery rhyme to recite aloud to the class.
The poem may be one we have learned in class or one the student has practiced at home.
This is a presentation-only assignment — no written paper is required.
📢 Students should practice speaking clearly and confidently. If your child feels nervous, you may choose to record a video of them reciting the rhyme at home and email it to the teacher.
September Due October 3rd
Students will read (or be read to) an alphabet book and contribute a page to our class-created alphabet book!
Each student will be assigned one letter of the alphabet to focus on for their page.
On their assigned letter page, students should:
Cut or paste images, draw, or write words that begin with their letter.
Vowels: Words can include the letter in the middle (e.g., cat for a).
Letter X: May be used at the end of a word (e.g., box, fox).
All work should be student-created as much as possible.
Encourage your child to do the cutting, gluing, drawing, and writing independently.
October Due October 31st
Students will read an award-winning picture book of their choice and complete a creative activity to show their understanding of the story.
Students will complete the “Picture Walk” form, which includes:
Student’s Name, Book Title, and Author
All writing should be neat and legible and completed by the student.
Draw and Color 3 Pictures:
One picture from the beginning of the story
One from the middle
One from the end
🎨 All drawings must be done and fully colored by the student.
🖼️ Pictures should be neat and carefully done, showing effort and understanding of the story.
November Due November 26th
For this book report, students will read (or be read to) a book about farms or farm animals.
The book may be narrative (a story) or informative (nonfiction)—student’s choice!
After reading, students will design a brand-new book cover for the book they read.
The new book cover must include:
Student’s Name
Title and Author of the book
A creative illustration drawn on the front
Students may choose to show a favorite scene or a lesson learned from the book
🎨 Artwork must be original and drawn completely by the student—no printed images or tracing.
December Due December 15th
Students will read an informational (nonfiction) book about a country or continent of their choice.
Read an informative book about a country or continent.
Fill out the continent/country worksheet with key facts from the book.
Attach the worksheet to a brown paper bag.
Place 3 items inside the bag that represent the country or continent.
These can be small objects, handmade items, or drawings.
Presentation: Students will share their 3 items with the class and explain how each item relates to the country or continent they studied.
📌 Students should be prepared to speak briefly about why they chose each item and what it teaches us about the place they read about.
January Due January 30th
Students will choose a fairy tale or fable to read (or be read to) for this book report.
After reading, students will complete the Story Elements Organizer to show what they learned from the story.
The organizer must include:
Student’s Name
Title and Author of the book
Students will then write or illustrate the following story elements:
Setting
Characters
Problem
Solution
🎨 If students choose to draw, pictures should be neat and fully colored.
✍️ All writing should be neat and legible, completed by the student.
February Due February26th
To celebrate our reading of Dr. Seuss, students will create a mobile that shows what they’ve learned and enjoyed from their chosen Dr. Seuss book.
Students will create a mobile using a hanger (wire hangers work best).
The mobile must include:
Student’s Name
Title and Author of the Dr. Seuss book
4–5 drawings or objects hanging from the mobile that relate to the story
🎨 All drawings must be made by the student—no printed or store-bought images, please.
March Due March 27th
This month, students should choose and read a Historical Fiction or a History book.
Book Report Instructions:
After reading, students will complete a simple, creative report that includes:
Student’s Name
Title of the Book
Star Rating
Students will color in stars neatly to show how much they liked (or didn’t like) the book.
Favorite Part (1 Sentence)
Students will write one sentence describing their favorite part of the book.
Illustration
Students will draw a small picture of their favorite part.
April Book Report: American Symbols
Worth: 20 points
Due: The week of April 28th (any day that week)
Topic: American Symbols
Choose- The students are to choose an American Symbol for this book report. Here are a few examples: a president, the bald eagle, white house, American flag, Mt. Rushmore, the Lincoln Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, etc.
Read- The students are to find at least two sources to read from to learn more about their American symbol. You can do books or the internet.
Report-The students are to make either a poster or a diorama representing their American Symbol they choose. Please note that due to our limited space, students will bring it and take it home right after they present.
Present- The students will need to present 5 facts about their American Symbol. They will use their poster or diorama to help them present. They may also use note cards or memorize it.
