Reading Calendars
Research has consistently shown that daily reading leads to academic gains and greater success in school.
Children that read nightly...
are better readers
have stronger brains (reading strengthens and creates new connections in the brain)
have the ability to concentrate for longer periods of time
have a better understanding of the world around them
have higher vocabulary and language skills
are more creative and imaginative
are more empathetic
are more successful in school
Required home reading is at least 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week for a total of 400 minutes each month.
Beginning in September, a monthly reading calendar will be sent home with your child. You will keep track of your child's reading for the entire month. At the end of the month, these calendars are to be returned to school for a grade. Please make this a fun experience for your child. Alternate between allowing your child to read to you and time spent reading to them.
