Here's how we will celebrate your child's special day:
On your child's birthday, they will receive a few birthday goodies from me.
At the start of the school day, we will sing Happy Birthday to your child. At the end of the day, your child may pass out birthday treats. If your child would like to bring birthday treats to share with the class, they must be commercially packaged, healthy treats (string cheese, apple sauce, goldfish) OR of the non-edible variety (pencils, stickers, party favors). Please do not send candy, cupcakes, and/or doughnuts.
This policy reflects the standards of Odyssey Charter School's Wellness Policy on Nutrition and Physical Activity. ALL teachers should be enforcing this policy, but unfortunately some teachers do not. I always enforce school policies in my classroom. Also, there are many students with food allergies and/or special diets. It is safer to send commercially packaged birthday treats home so parents know and can make the decision about what their child eats.
If your child wants to distribute invitations and the whole class isn't invited, your child will need to give me the invitations and I will place them in the backpacks of the invited students. This is just an effort to protect the feelings of those students that have not been invited. Please let me know if your child will be bringing invitations.
If your child has a birthday that falls on a weekend day, we will celebrate your child's birthday on the Friday prior to your child's actual birthday. If your child has a birthday that falls outside of the school year (summer), please choose a day to celebrate his/her birthday and then notify me via email so that I can prepare accordingly.
