Registering Your Child!

Students with Consular Reports of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America/Consular Report of Birth - FS 240 or school transcripts issued by a Department of Defense (DOD) School abroad are not required to complete their registration at the International Student Counseling Office (ISCO).

1. Original birth certificate for each child

Note: Proof of age is required for all students to be registered. An original proof of birth must be provided for students entering the school system for the first time.

2. Immunization record for each child

Current immunization records are required before a child can be admitted into school.

Maryland State law will not allow any student to start school without a copy of this record.

3. Proof of residency within school boundaries

In order to register a child in Prince George’s County Public Schools, proof of residency within school boundaries is required. It may be established by a combination of the following documents: settlement papers, lease or rental agreement, deed of property, mortgage statement, letter from an apartment complex on the official letterhead, or a current tax assessment bill. These documents must be in original form. Settlement papers, lease agreement, and rental agreements must be signed and dated by all parties. Additional required documentation includes recent mail received at the family address within the previous thirty days. If there are any concerns regarding proof of residency, or if the original term of the lease has expired, or if the ownership information is more than one year old, please provide proof and at least two current bill statements with your name and address.

4. Parent identification

Valid government-issued photo identification of parent or legal guardian (driver’s license or passport) has to be shown at the time of school registration.

5. A copy of the most recent report card from previous schools, if available.

For example, parents may have their children’s transcripts or report cards from schools in their native countries or overseas. If those documents are available, please submit them at the time of registration.

6. Social Security Number

Proof of Social Security number is required only if it is available.

If you have a lease from a private party:

1. Private party leases must be notarized by the property owner.2.A notarized letter from the property owner must be provided with the original lease.

If you own your home, you may bring in one of the following:

1. Deed with current utility bill2. Settlement statement with signatures and current utility bill3. Current mortgage statement4. Current property tax statement

If you are living with family or friends, you must:

1. Pick up a Shared Housing Disclosure Form from the school and have it signed by the landlord or renter and the parent enrolling the student in front of a public notary.2. Provide proof of residency within the school boundaries. 3. Provide at least two (2) pieces of current mail (within thirty days) that establish the parent as ‘having established residency at that address’. Examples of acceptable mail are given with the Shared Housing disclosure.4. Parents who have lived at the home for less than thirty (30) days will be given more time to provide proof of residency.
