I am Professor Sherita Washington, and I am a graduate of the Master of Arts program in LifeSpan and Digital Communications from Old Dominion University (ODU).
After nearly 40 years since completing my Bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I returned to college, focusing my graduate studies project on Self-Care for Black Women.
Currently, I serve as a Professor at ODU, teaching Public Speaking and Honors Public Speaking. In addition to my academic role, I am a licensed real estate agent and a fitness consultant. I also work for the Virginia Beach Public Schools system.
For over 23 years, I have been an active member of the New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, where I currently serve as a Deaconess and participate in various other ministries within the church.
ODU is part of my testimony.
I came for undergrad, and I stayed for graduate school. I worked at the university for years and served through several ministries. Somewhere in that journey, Jesus found me.
Now I serve as the Campus Minister at the BCM. It feels like God has brought me back to the soil where my faith first took root.
I believe God meets us in the mundane. The meals. The conversations. The daily rhythms we are tempted to overlook. Those ordinary moments form us.
I believe we need people to walk with us through the wilderness. We need tables where we can eat together. We need communities that make room for questions and growth.
My work has carried me through public health and project management. My calling keeps drawing me toward young adults and the work of justice, reconciliation, and global missions.
I GET TO build this life with my husband and our daughter. I also GET TO build with the family God has gathered around us.
The tent is enlarging!
I am grateful for Chosen Generation and excited for the ministry still ahead of us.
Praise be to God.
