The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed for youth who are blind or visually impaired, to transition from the camper to counselor role for two summers. Campers can enroll in the program, if applicable, when they turn 16, or they can opt to wait until completing high school. CITs will serve as a mentor, instructor, and role model during camp, and will work under the mentorship of a group leader who will directly support them in their development. CIT Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with a supporting coach (or coaches)
Assist with instruction at sport activities.
Provide feedback to athletes during activities.
Assist with ADL’s as needed (at mealtimes, dorm - packing back, getting ready for bed, etc.)
Demonstrate professionalism and good decision making.
Listens to others' ideas and works cooperatively to achieve group goals.
Demonstrates some initiative in solving problems and making decisions, will occasionally try new ideas to solve a problem.
CIT Skills / Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years old
Ability to independently complete personal daily living skills
Ability to assist others with daily living skills
Ability to work well without constant supervision
Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills
Ability to independently navigate camp spaces, after orientation
Ability to be physically active for 10-12 hours a day
Interest in working with youth with visual impairments
