All-District Choir Auditions

Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Lone Jack High School

Audition process

1. You sing 2 minutes of a contest-type solo (you don't have to start at the beginning- make sure you get the best part of the song in that 2 minutes).

2. You identify key signatures, sight-read a 5 measure melody, and sight-read your voice part in a 5 measure SATB piece. On the sight-reading, you get 2 points per measure: one for correct rhythm, and one for correct pitch. If nothing else, make sure you get the rhythm correct!

3. That's it! This part of your audition gets counted along with your All-State audition later to determine who makes the All-State Choir, so do your VERY BEST!

All-District Choir Clinic & All-State Choir Auditions

Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Oak Grove High School

This is an all-day rehearsal clinic with a 5:30 pm performance (free & open to the public). During the afternoon, you will audition for the All-State Choir. This process is a little different than All-District Choir auditions. You will sing your voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, or bass) for the song "O Sing Joyfully” by Batten. There will be a recording that plays the other 3 parts along with you, BUT DOES NOT PLAY YOUR PART. This score, combined with your All-District Choir audition score determines who goes to All-State Choir. Only the top four singers from each voice part (and two alternates) are selected to sing in the All-State Choir.
