Oneida's Road to Code Project
The Oneida City School District applied for and received a Learning Technology Grant (LTG) from New York State that spanned 3 consecutive years, 2021-2024. Named the "Road to Code" project, this grant created learning opportunities for students that directly supported district technology standards, student achievement objectives, multiple Next Generation Learning Standards, including the NYS Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards. Project activities also supported the development of ISTE Skills and the 4 C's: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.
Through this LTG project, educators created a K-8 standards-based digital literacy curriculum to enhance STEAM education and provided extended learning day opportunities for students to engage in coding activities.
Stated goals of the Oneida Road to Code Project:
Expose students to coding at an early age and throughout their school career to encourage interests in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) and prepare them for the modern workforce.
Increase district capacity/systems for effective teaching and the use of technology to ultimately impact student performance and sustain positive project outcomes beyond the grant period.
