Case Study In Computer Hardware
In this assignment, you will consider your own computing needs, and identify the kind of devices that best address those needs. The objective of this assignment is to develop an understanding of commercially available computer parts, and to understand how they contribute to your experience as a computer user.
Part One: Identify The Problem
In this section, list the ways you use a computer on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Part Two: Develop Understanding
Start by making a list of each computer you use on a regular basis. Don't forget to include portable devices.
For each device, identify the kind of computer parts it contains. Don't forget to include both the inside parts (eg, RAM, CPU), and the outside parts (eg, display, keyboard, etc). Make sure to include the technical specifications (size, speed, power, etc, including name and numbers). Many devices will report these values in a settings menu, but you may also have to research the model information online.
Part Three: Making Connections
Select one of the devices from Part Two that you use frequently. Based on your understanding of your devices, and the ways you use them, identify the ways in which the computer hardware that you use meets, exceeds, or fails to meet the needs you have for it. For each part, how good of a match is it for the ways you use it?
Part Four: Action
Given what you now know about the relationship between computer hardware and your uses, find yourself the ideal computer. Include a list of its parts, and its cost, and for each explain how it is appropriate for your uses and priorities.
Extra
I can get a bonus? Yes you can!
If you complete just the above part of the assignment, you will be marked out of 3+. You will be marked out of 4+ if, in Part Four, you design a custom PC rather than finding an existing one online. In addition to the concerns identified above, you will have to ensure that the parts you select are compatible with each other (For example, a particular motherboard is designed for only certain particular CPUs, while being widely compatible with most types of RAM). You can use this website(canadacomputers.com) as an example of each part and the cost.
