Students who are interested in apprenticeships and working in one of many skilled trades can begin an apprenticeship as early as high school. The Skilled Trades are an essential, and in demand option for several of our students. Please check out the Skilled Trades Ontario website for more information.
OYAP: Begin your apprenticeship while still studying in high school. The OCSB is proud to offer this program, run through Co-operative Education. Students can get started working on their apprenticeship hours through a Co-op placement. For more information, see your guidance counsellor and co-op teacher.
The Canadian Forces' recruitment campaign states "No matter your interests, whatever your goals, find a career that fits you with the Canadian Armed Forces". Students who are interested in the Canadian Armed Forces should research their extensive website regarding career opportunities, training, and in demand occupations. A recruiter will visit St. Joseph High School each Fall and students are encouraged to attend the presentation. For more information, see your guidance counsellor.
Students who are interested in the workplace should work towards gaining volunteer and work experience. They should additionally be building their resumes and honing their interview skills. Students are encouraged to use myBlueprint to research various career opportunities. Through their Career Studies class in grade 10, students will have the opportunity to research pathways and careers.
