About Our School

History and Pius Family

St. Pius X High School opened its doors in September of 1958 Preparatory Seminary as a project through the Archdiocese of Ottawa. Although construction for the various buildings was not yet complete, the first years were so successful that expansion plans were already underway. Close ties to the Diocese of Antigonish were maintained throughout to support the school's teaching staff. Throughout the 1960s, parishes in Ottawa supported the school as enrolment at the school increased. All aspects of learning were important, with a special emphasis on athletic pursuits right from the very start. Along with athletics, countless extracurricular activities were part of the school community, and a very special program - the ATC (Adult Training Centre) program for students with special needs began. The ATC connection continues to this day, as Pius students continue to host dances and special events for individuals with special needs in the Ottawa Area.

The priests, sisters and teachers at St. Pius X all contributed to a distinctive atmosphere at the school. Many staff members have attended St. Pius as students and "keeping things in the family" for some of our staff, their children have attended (or are attending) the school as well. These roots have led to a strong family spirit at St. Pius that shines through all of our endeavours. If you are from West Ottawa or Nepean, you undoubtedly know people who cheered at Pius football games, attended the Pius Bingo or acted as a member of the Drama Guild.

The Pius family continues to grow and thrive today - building on the dream that was started in the 1950s as our school continues to pursue greatness, following our motto - "To establish all things in Christ."
