Co-Operative Education

Co-Operative Education

St. Pius X Cooperative Education is a structured educational program integrating classroom studies with learning through work experience. This work experience occurs in a field related to the student’s academic or career goals. It also provides ongoing experiences integrating theory and practice. The Co-op partnership is a relationship among students, school and employers where each partner carries specific responsibilities.

The school’s educational strategy is to integrate classroom curriculum into the workplace with the ongoing support of a constructive relationship between the students, teachers and employers.

The Cooperative Education work experience includes an educational learning environment with productive work. These work experiences relate to career or academic goals, and provide pre-employment preparation for the students. With the collaboration of the employer, each student is given a job description and is provided with new learning opportunities. The student must work during a specified work period and achieve a minimum number of work hours during the term. The Co-op work placement is monitored by the school and the employer. Evaluations are designed to ensure quality and relevancy of the work experience and curriculum, and to maximize the outcomes for the students and employers. Evaluations are completed in collaboration with the teacher and the employer.

Throughout the Cooperative Education learning experience, students will develop the ability to integrate classroom curriculum with workplace practice, clarify their academic and career goals and enhance motivation through the development of workplace skills.

We look forward to beginning a partnership with you, and thank you for considering mentoring one of our students.

Sincerely,

St. Pius X High School
