This course is good for students who already have a bit of experience on an instrument and who would like to challenge themselves to learn more. Students can take this course each year of high school.
When is this course offered?
These courses are offered AFTER SCHOOL for extra credits
Students are able to take these courses as well as the ones offered during the regular timetable
These courses are FULL YEAR courses, meaning they run September to June
There are two rehearsals a week after school from 2:45pm-4:00pm (Mondays and Wednesdays)
Do I have to buy an instrument to take this course?
No, the school provides instruments for the students to borrow for the year
What do the students learn in this course?
Concert Band has a focus on playing concert band music
Students will expand their knowledge of playing their instrument and playing together as a band
The instruments that are offered are: flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba, and drums. Sometimes other instruments can take part (e.g. violin), however the school would be unable to provide them.
The Concert Band plays at various school events throughout the year and often has opportunities to go on school trips (e.g. Toronto, New York City, etc.)
Why should students take Concert Band?
Students will learn how to improve on their instrument
Students who take this course get great performance opportunities and have the chance to go on a trip
Students can earn up to 8 extra credits by taking after school courses
Employers are more likely to consider hiring applicants with a solid background of studies in the Arts

No, the school provides instruments for the students to borrow for the year
What do the students learn in this course?
R&B Band has a focus on playing rhythm and blues music from various eras
The instruments that are offered in this band are: alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, electric guitar, electric bass, and drums
These courses also incorporate singers, so both vocalists and instrumentalists are welcome!
The R&B Band performs at various school events throughout the year and often has opportunities to go on school trips (e.g. Toronto, New York City, etc.)
