Itinerant PGL Support

An important role of PGL, Program for Gifted Learners, is itinerant support. This support is available on Fridays where there are no students at the PGL sites. The calendar on the right lists available dates. Please email me a dates and times that work for you then we can confirm.

I would like to make initial visits to all the PGL students' home schools to review the student assessments and discuss possible future support.

Itinerant PGL support may include supporting school staff in:

  • development of the IEP,
  • implementation of enrichment programming at the primary/junior levels
  • provision of enrichment ideas, higher-order thinking and teaching strategies and identification of appropriate materials
  • coaching new resource teachers through the Gifted Screening Process
  • development of site based action plans for gifted students in collaboration with school team and education consultant
  • model, promote and assist in the coordination of inclusive practices
  • participate in school collaborative team meetings for students that meet the criteria for giftedness in our board
  • programming professional development (workshops) as required
  • assisting in the development and implementation of transition programs for individual students
  • accessing community resources for parents and students (e.g. ABC Take-Off programs)
  • provide student and teacher in-class workshop, modeling a day at PGL (higher order thinking skills/global competencies)

PGL Priorities

  • This year at the St. Andrew site there is 69 students from 21 schools. I will strive to communicate clearly and have my email organized to contact the key person at each student's school. Please email me if my contact information is incorrect.
  • There are 39 PGL dates this school year and the calendar. Attendance at the Program for Gifted Learners is viewed as a year-long commitment. It is important that students attend regularly. Students should only miss class under special circumstances (i.e., illness, class outings, special school events) and with parental approval. If student(s) will not be attending PGL, the school should notify the PGL teacher via phone, e-mail, or personal note. If none of the PGL students will be attending, the school should notify transportation in advance.
  • There should not be additional work for students at their home school as a result of their attendance at PGL.
  • IEP collaboration is essential and communication about timelines will ensure IEPs are shared with parents when required.
  • If there are any questions or concerns about PGL by the student, parents or school, please feel free to contact me so I can address them as soon as possible.
