“Opportunities for authentic learning experiences and experiential learning exist in all classrooms and programs” (SEF 5.2)
“Students build on in-school and out-of-school experiences to further explore and reflect upon their interests, strengths, skills and education and career/life aspirations.” (SEF 5.4)
Community-connected experiential learning is a pedagogical approach to learning that gives students opportunities to actively participate in experiences connected to a community outside of school.
It can be done locally, nationally, or globally. Students first participate in an experience. Students reflect on those experiences and then apply their learning to their decisions and actions in both school and life.
Experiences can be done in person, virtually or a combination of the two (blended).
Experiential learning is an important feature of the school's education and career/ life planning program. It helps students make authentic connections to career/life opportunities that prepare them for full and productive participation in the highly-skilled workforce.
