Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers,
I'm hopeful you will take the time to fill out the short survey below so that I can contact you when your child does amazing things!! (click below)
Bonjour!
Hello, it is a pleasure to have your child in my class this year! My name is Mme Burke, and I am thrilled to be your child's teacher. I am excited about the opportunity to get to know your child and to guide them through an engaging and rewarding learning experience.
As your child's teacher, I am committed to providing a supportive and enriching classroom environment. Here's what I will do to best support your child:
Effective instruction: I will provide engaging lessons that cater to different learning styles, incorporating various activities, multimedia resources, and authentic materials to make learning French enjoyable and meaningful.
Clear expectations: I will establish clear rules and expectations in the classroom to create a positive and productive learning environment. We will discuss these rules together during the first few days of school.
Regular feedback: To the best of my ability, I will provide timely feedback on your child's progress and achievements. I believe constructive feedback is crucial for growth and I will work closely with your child to help them reach their full potential.
Classroom Policies
Hapara platform: I will be using the Hapara platform which is where up to date classroom materials and student work can be found.
Homework checks and parent signatures: I strongly believe in a school-life balance where students should have time to “play” once the day is done. With this in mind, when homework is assigned I will, to the best of my ability, alot class time to complete work. It will then be up to the student to bring it home if they did not complete their work in the provided class time. I kindly ask when tests or assignments are sent home that you check and sign your child's assignments to stay informed about their progress.
Attendance and missed work policies: Regular attendance lends to your child's academic success. If your child is absent, please notify the school as soon as possible. Missed work will be made up upon their return, and I will provide any necessary support to ensure a smooth transition. If students know they will be absent on the day of a test or presentation, they must be prepared to complete the evaluation upon their return (within reason: please contact me if extenuating circumstances arise).
Cell phone and technology policy: As per our school policy, Grade 7/8 students are asked to keep their cell phones in their lockers during class time. However, students will be permitted to bring chromebooks or other laptops for classwork and additional chromebooks are available if needed. I will guide them on appropriate use of technology during specific activities.
If you wish to correspond about any questions, concerns or inquiries, please do not hesitate to send me an email directly. Email is preferred but I am happy to call you back at a scheduled time if you desire.
