A Message from Ms Jillian Budgell

Artistic Director and Dramatic Arts Teacher

Welcome to your home for all the exciting events happening in our Dramatic Arts community. I am a firm believer in the importance of the Arts, and I love all the opportunities for growth and learning we provide here at MAC. I am very grateful for the support and encouragement from our administration, led by Mr. Sean Power, and the many other staff and teachers who provide assistance and share in our belief in the importance of learning through the Arts.

Whether you are interested in taking Drama as one your elective courses or making it a part of your extracurricular experience, I welcome you to join our community of dedicated and talented Theatre students. This is my third year as Artistic Director, and I'm incredibly proud of our award winning productions and programming. Over the years our Theatre family has grown, and this year we are expanding to include some exciting new opportunities.

For the first time, Immaculata is offering a Production Course, where students from Grade 10-12 work together to learn and create. Together, we are working on the different aspects of Theatre Production with the end goal of presenting Almost, Maine as our December production. Immaculata continues to offer Dramatic Arts to grade nine students looking to get a general introduction into the world of Dramatic Arts.

Also new for 2019-2020 is our Improv Team. Eight students from grades 9-12 will represent Immaculata at the Canadian Improv Games at the National Arts Centre this February. I myself have a long history with the CIG as a player, a coach, and a trainer, and I know first hand what a rewarding and inclusive experience this will be for our students.

Of course we will be participating in Canada's Capital Cappies again this season. In addition to boasting our largest critic team to date, we are very excited to present the comical thriller The 39 Steps. After our school record breaking 12 nominations and four wins last year, I am excited to work with Mac Drama students to produce another spectacular show this Spring.

With so much happening, it's going to be a fantastic year!
