Listen to some recent All Saints grads discuss why being in Contemporary Studies classes helped prepare them for their future studies.
I’m a science kid. Next year I’m going to university to study sciences and will hopefully end up in medical school. I love the sciences and have done very well in them, but my favourite class isn’t a science, it’s Grade 11 World History. No other class has challenged my critical thinking and creative problem solving in the same way. I learnt how to methodically research, how to navigate large sums of information and complex scenarios. This proved invaluable when tackling grade 12 science labs, English essays, and university supplementary applications. I am a stronger and more confident student because of my world history class. I don’t know what better compliment to give it than wanting my younger siblings to take the class when they reach grade 11.

I am currently about to finish my first year at Queens University in Kingston. My projected major is politics with a minor in global development. The skills I learnt in my grade 11 and 12 history classes have made a fundamental difference in my study habits, writing ability and presentation skills. Through those classes I learnt how to think critically about primary and secondary source material as well as great time management skills thanks to semester-long assignments similar to those I write in university now. These classes molded me into the student I am.
