How to Reserve a Date and Time for a Class Trip
Click Here to Book a Class Trip to the ORCA!
Be sure to include your class name and grade level (ie. Mr. Smith's 3rd Grade Class) in the information, as well as if you will be doing the district created lesson or using the space for another purpose.
There is no bathroom inside the Arboretum. The nearest one is inside School 6 by the Special Education office, you will have to get buzzed in to enter. We recommend trying to come with another adult on your trip so one can take students to the bathroom if needed. You can reach out to your building coach, Dr. Christiansen to see if the science aide is available, or bring another grade level teacher from your building (the space can accommodate two classes).
The trips are booked for one class a day. You are able to come and use the space for anytime you want between the hours of 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The designed lessons only require an hour and a half to complete but feel free to stay longer to enjoy the space.
All of the necessary supplies will be out and on the desks for you and your class. It is important to note that you will be running the lesson yourselves, there is no lesson coordinator outside with your class. If you have any problems or urgent concerns while out there, use the walkie talkie to call upstairs for Mr. Scannell.
We offer informational PD classes at least once in the fall and once in the spring where you can explore the arboretum, practice the lesson you will be teaching answer any questions you may have about bringing a class on a trip. it is highly recommended that you attend the PD before coming but not mandatory.
If for any reason you cannot come at that date and time you scheduled, please be sure to log back in and cancel your session so we know if the space needs to be set up. If the cancelation is within 24 hours of your scheduled trip email orcarboretum@oceansideschools.org as well to let us know.
How to Get to the Arboretum
In order to get your class to the Arboretum you will need to work with your building secretary as you would for any other class field trip. The district will cover the cost of the busses, so there is no charge to your students.
