Learning Strategies (GLE1O/2O)

This course focuses on learning strategies to help student become better, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community. The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond. The Course consists of 4 strands:

1. Learning Skills

2. Personal Knowledge and Management Skills

3. Interpersonal Knowledge and Skills

4. Exploring Opportunities

MINIMAL COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Review IEP and/or your learning style (via Career Cruising). Focus on your strengths and how you learn.

  2. Email to Teacher(s): inform them of your strengths and needs within the classroom.

  3. Google Calendar: organize tests and study time with extra-curricular events.

  4. Teacher Conference: have regular check-in meetings with your LST, discuss upcoming projects/tests and the strategies you’ll use to succeed.

  5. Email to Parent(s): inform them of your current work responsibilities and how you are managing the balance.

  6. Homework: stay on top of your day-to-day work.

  7. Career Cruising: use the online quiz and career matchmaker

  8. Course Selection: plan your pathway for the year ahead.

  9. Planning for Exams: try a few study strategies

  10. Portfolio: collect all of these requirements into a folder
