We continue to develop a dance program here at Ridgemont, connecting with the community and embracing new genres of dance and a vast range of movements. Students benefit from workshops with dancers from the NAC, local and International ballet schools and community dance studios. Other highlights include performances as part of Ridgemont Arts Night, special assemblies, board-wide dance showcases and performing for the community in settings such as retirement residences. This class is meant to challenge students mentally and culturally through analysis of dance styles from around the world and from different generations. They are challenged physically with their own fitness levels and using many different muscles. The dancers are challenged socially by working in groups, individually, free form, creative dancing and performing in front of audiences. They are usually doing this for the first time and many students have learned about confidence and have a more mature understanding of the importance of being an audience member, the work ethic and huge amount of time that goes into the creation of a choreography and the polishing of it before performances.
