Visual Arts and Media Art

Our students deepen their understanding of themselves and others in an increasingly visual world by observing, making, and analyzing art. Grade 9 and 10 courses introduce a variety of media and methods for visual communication, while senior courses develop independent interests. The Visual Design course supports students with post-secondary applications to art and design programs. Ridgemont grads studying and working in art and design fields return to give workshops and advise students with admission portfolios. We embrace opportunities to connect with the school and broader communities. This includes participating in art exchanges with classes outside Canada, events and workshops at school, public murals, and city wide art exhibitions, connecting to small businesses and also to our city and national galleries. Let’s create together!

Creative energy permeates the school environment. In addition, we are fortunate to have supportive partners in the community who offer students the opportunity to exhibit work in a variety of of public settings including libraries, small businesses and galleries. We also connect with artist and performers to collaborate on artworks and art events

Arts Night at RHS

Every semester students from the Visual Arts Program present their artwork as a part of Arts Night, a community event which includes all of the arts here at Ridgemont. Students display paintings, drawings, sculpture, installation art, ceramics, and even create live art at the event! Scroll down to see some photos from past Arts Night Art Shows.
